Eric Bieber, MD, MHM, serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of what is today known as Rochester Regional Health (RRH). Joining in November of 2014 following the merger of Rochester General Hospital and Unity Health System, Dr. Bieber has led the organization during a period of rapid growth adding additional hospitals and physician practices expanding the geographic reach of high-quality tertiary and quaternary healthcare throughout Upstate New York. Under Dr. Bieber’s leadership, Rochester Regional Health has grown into a $2.3 billion health system that not only delivers outstanding quaternary, tertiary and primary care to residents in New York State, but also, through wholly-owned subsidiary, ACM Global Laboratories – partners with the world’s leading pharmaceutical companies to develop new medicines and bring them to market more quickly.
During his tenure at RRH, Dr. Bieber has led the system to become a sought-after destination for physicians and health care leaders who believe that healthcare is the quintessential team sport and that everyone should have easy access to the best care in the hospital, at home and all places in between. Together, Dr. Bieber and his leadership team have achieved elite electronic medical records connectivity status with HIMSS 7 status- awarded to only six percent of health systems nationally, as well as nursing excellence distinction with Magnet Designation and recognition of excellence in critical care nursing with the achievement of 8 Beacon Awards – one of only three health systems in the country to do so.
From 2010 until November 2014, he served in several roles at University Hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio, including President of Community Hospitals West Region and President of University Hospitals Accountable Care Organizations. Prior to his time at University Hospitals, Dr. Bieber served in various positions with Geisinger Health Systems in Danville, Pennsylvania, from 2001 to 2009, including Chief Medical Officer at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, and chairman and medical director, Women’s Health.
Since May 2016, Dr. Bieber has served as a member of the board of governors of the Greater New York Hospital Association Inc. (GNYHA). In addition, Dr. Bieber serves on the American Hospital Association Regional Policy Board, the Premier, Inc., Board of Directors, the Rochester Institute of Technology Board of Trustees, and the Musical Instrument Museum Board of Directors.
Clinically, Dr. Bieber is an obstetrician/gynecologist and Reproductive Endocrinologist. Dr. Bieber received a bachelor’s degree from Illinois Wesleyan University and his Doctor of Medicine Degree from Loyola University’s Stritch School of Medicine. He also holds a master’s degree in microbiology from Illinois State University and a master’s degree in Healthcare Management from Harvard University.
