As Senior Vice President, Specialty Medicine & Surgery Group, Ralph Pennino, MD, leads the innovation, strategy, and operation of the Specialty Medicine and Surgery service lines, departments and centers across the Rochester Regional Health system.
Dr. Pennino started in his current role in 2016. Through his leadership, he has driven improved safety, quality, and patient outcomes as it relates to Specialty Medicine and Surgery. He oversees administrative leaders and clinical operations and facilitated integration of the various service lines across the five hospital system ensuring a common approach to care and quality while allowing each hospital to maintain its unique culture, history and relationship with local community. Before leading on a system level, Dr. Pennino served as Chair of Surgery at Rochester General Hospital .
In addition to his leadership role with Rochester Regional Health, Dr. Pennino is the co-founder and president of InterVol. InterVol is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing needed medical materials to the world’s most impoverished areas. He created the organization after volunteering in developing countries and seeing the dire need for medical help and benefiting from supplies that would have otherwise been discarded
As well as being a Rochester Regional Health leader, Dr. Pennino is an American College of Surgeons Fellow, a diplomat for the American Society of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery and a member of the New York State and Monroe County Medical societies.
Dr. Pennino earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame in Indiana and his doctor of medicine degree from Georgetown University Medical School in Washington, D.C.
