A lifelong connection to St. Mary's

Bill Carreo
Friend (1939-Present)

I was born at St. Mary's Dec. 18, 1939. Years later I found out that Pat Russo was born at St. Mary's on the same date. Pat is the wife of Gabe Russo ,my boss when I was in charge of welfare sevices. Pat and I always celebrated our birthdays together.
I have always found peace in Bishop Kearney's poem outside the chapel. When I was in the I served mass for Bishop Kearney weekly at the county jail and had breakfast with him and Sheriff Al Skinner.
In the '60s I served as subdeacon on Christmas eve at St. Mary's. My best friend, community activist, and my golf partner, James "MAMBA " McCuller died peacefully at St. Mary's hospice in 1992.
Stu Moot had a plaque placed outside the chapel in honor of Jim. These are but a few of my special memories of St. Mary's. BEST WISHES ON the 150th and GOD BLESS!
