Short-Term Disability Insurance (including Maternity Leave)

Residents who are out on short-term disability, which includes maternity leave, will be paid per New York State guidelines.

Long-Term Disability Insurance (2 levels of coverage)

Coverage begins on the first of the month; if your start date is the first of the month, you will be covered that month; if your start date is later in the month, your coverage will begin the first of the following month. This benefit becomes effective after six months of disability. The cost to cover 60% of the resident’s salary is paid by the Hospital. The resident can make an additional contribution to increase the coverage to 70% of salary.

Medical Insurance

Housestaff and their immediate families are provided with the opportunity to join one of the two medical insurance plans. The Hospital contributes a portion of the cost of the premiums. The house officer’s portion of the premium will be deducted from their pay on a pre-tax basis, thus reducing taxable income and increasing take home pay.

Dental Insurance

Housestaff are eligible to select from two levels of dental coverage for themselves and their immediate family members. The Hospital contributes a portion of the cost of the premiums. The house officer’s portion of the premium will be deducted from their pay on a pre-tax basis, thus reducing taxable income and increasing take home pay.
