Program description

The Unity Hospital PGY-1 Residency Program is designed to train ambitious and highly qualified pharmacists. This program will prepare our pharmacy residents to provide excellent health care as a clinical pharmacist in any setting. Clinical skills, critical thinking and verbal communications will be emphasized to prepare our pharmacy residents to continue onto PGY-2 residency, fellowship in specialty areas of pharmacy and/or a career in pharmacy practice.

About the program

Our program consists of required acute patient-care experiences in the areas of internal medicine, critical care medicine, emergency medicine, antibiotic stewardship, surgical services and pharmacy practice. Residents will be exposed to centralized and decentralized pharmacy practice, electronic medical records, clinical surveillance, pharmacokinetic dosing, renal dose adjustment, intravenous to oral route switches, care team rounds, direct patient care, sterile product preparation and computer assisted medication dispensing cabinets.

  • Graduate of a Doctor of Pharmacy Program accredited by the American Council for Pharmacy Education
  • Must be a United States Citizen or an alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence in the United States
  • Must be eligible for licensure in the state of New York and must be officially licensed no later than September 1, 2016
