What is Neurointerventional Surgery?

Neurointerventional surgery (also commonly known as endovascular neurosurgery, interventional neurology, interventional neuroradiology, neuroendovascular surgery or neurointerventional radiology) is an innovative, minimally-invasive surgical approach that can treat vascular (blood vessel) problems of the brain, head, neck, and spine.

For patients, the benefits of neurointerventional surgery include smaller incisions, faster recovery, and less pain than traditional surgery. Procedures utilize sophisticated imaging techniques, during which our board-certified neurointerventional surgeons use tiny catheters (tubes) to place miniature instruments in the blood vessels for surgical repairs of neurovascular disorders.

Conditions We Treat

Many disorders of the blood vessels in the brain, neck, and spine can be treated via neurointerventional surgery. The most common conditions we treat include:

  • Aneurysms/Pseudoaneurysms
  • Carotid and vertebral artery atherosclerotic stenosis
  • Cervical and Cerebral dissection
  • Chronic subdural hematoma
  • Cushing's Syndrome
  • Epistaxis (nose bleeds)
  • Head/Neck/Spine tumors
  • Pseudotumor Cerebri
  • Pulsatile Tinnitus
  • Stroke
  • Subarachnoid hemorrhage
  • Traumatic vascular injury of the head/neck/spine
  • Vascular malformations of the head/neck/spine
  • Vasospasm
  • Venous Thrombosis/Stenosis

We are home to the only trained neurointerventionalists dedicated solely to these procedures in the region. And, because of our large health network, we manage every step of your care, coordinating with our trained specialists for emergent care, follow-up, and rehabilitation.
