Salvatore's Story - Total hip replacement
"My son really pushed me and I'm so glad he did. Now, I have no pain, I feel great!"
As an active member and trustee at the local Eagles Club, Salvatore Valenti leads a very active lifestyle. Still, before his hip operation “I had to walk with a cane, all stooped over,” he recalled.
That’s not an issue now for the octogenarian, who had a total hip replacement at the Charles J. August Joint Replacement Center at Unity Hospital. His relief was nearly immediate, and allowed him to return to cooking meals at his club, socializing and planning for their Christmas party.
During post-op inpatient rehabilitation, he particularly enjoyed working with his orthopaedic program clinician. “She was so wonderful,” he says.
Salvatore once thought he was too old to have a hip replacement, but his son “really pushed me, and I’m so glad he did,” he remembers. “Now I have no pain. I feel great.”
