Gynecologic Cancers We Treat

We provide individualized, compassionate care and the most advanced diagnostic and treatment options for gynecologic cancers, including:

  • Cervical Cancer: this cancer type develops in the cervix (the lower part of your uterus that connects with the upper part of your vagina). Cervical cancer develops slowly and can be prevented by the HPV vaccine. It can be diagnosed by a Pap and HPV DNA testing during an annual gynecological exam. When diagnosed early, cervical cancer is curable, and patients have an excellent chance of recovery.
  • Fallopian Tube Cancer: also known as tubal cancer, this cancer develops in the tissue of one or both of the fallopian tubes, which connect the ovaries and the uterus.
  • Gestational Trophoblastic Disease (GTD): GTD is a rare group of tumors that develop after conception and lead to abnormal development of the placenta. The most common types of GTD are molar pregnancy, choriocarcinoma, placental site trophoblastic tumors, and epithelioid trophoblastic tumors. All forms of GTD can be treated and, in the majority of cases, cured. In addition, most women who have had a single incidence of GTD can have normal subsequent pregnancies.
  • Ovarian Cancer: a disease in which cells in the ovaries (the two small, oval-shaped organs that produce eggs and the female hormones estrogen and progesterone) multiply and grow abnormally. Ovarian cancer often presents with symptoms of abdominal bloating, nausea, and changes in bowel or bladder habits which results in a delay in diagnosis. In addition, about 1 in 10 women diagnosed will have a strong family history of ovarian cancer or a mutation in a gene that increases the risk of the disease. Learn more about cancer genetic testing.
  • Uterine & Endometrial Cancer: the most common gynecologic cancer, uterine and endometrial cancers form in the uterus or the lining of the uterus (the endometrium) and typically develop after menopause, between the ages of 50 and 60. It is often associated with obesity. There are many different types of uterine cancer, each varying in its behavior and management, but it is curable in many cases.
  • Vaginal Cancer: representing only about 2% of all gynecologic cancers, vaginal cancer occurs when malignant cells form in your vagina. Typically, cancerous vaginal tumors occur when another cancer (like cervical or endometrial) spreads. Vaginal cancer is more common in women age 60 and older. A diagnosis of early-stage vaginal cancer has the best chance for a cure.
  • Vulvar Cancer: occurs in the outer portion of the female genitals. Vulvar cancer is a rare, slow-growing cancer and may begin as precancerous changes that can be treated before they become cancer. It is often marked by itching, burning, or pain. Routine physical exams by a gynecologist can help detect suspicious lesions.

Early detection and a quick and accurate diagnosis are crucial to providing the best possible treatment and care for gynecologic cancer.
