- At least one, 3-4 hour shift each week for a minimum of 13-15 weeks totaling 40 volunteer hours. (Note: Most of our volunteers continue on well beyond the minimum requirements of the 40 total hours and 13-15 weeks of volunteering.)
Steps to Become a Volunteer

Step #2: Part 1 (Self-study) Orientation
- Open the Reference Checking documents and print, complete, sign and date.
- Open the Volunteer Orientation Self Study Presentation.
- Open, print, complete, sign and date the following documents that will go into your official volunteer file:
Self-Study Topic Checklist (use "Volunteer Orientation Self Study Presentation" from #2 to complete the checklist)
Part 1 Self-Study Post-Test (use "Volunteer Orientation Self Study Presentation" from #2 to complete questions)
Step #3: Interview (30-minutes)
Please follow the instructions in the email confirmation that we sent you to schedule your 30-minute interview.
Step #4: Complete a full health screening and 90-minute In-Classroom Orientation
The health screening normally involves one health appointment here at Rochester General Hospital. The screening includes a brief health history questionnaire, blood draw and urine drug screen test.
The 90-minute In-Classroom Orientation sessions are scheduled on Wednesdays about twice-a-month. Session times alternate between 1:00-2:30pm and 5:30-7:00pm.
Health screening and orientation session paperwork will be reviewed during your interview.
