Medical Pathfinder Program

High school and college students during the school year an opportunity to

  • Get a feel for what it is like to be in a hospital setting
  • Observe medical professionals and their interactions with patients
  • Gain experience in the medical field
  • Interact with patients and learn about their needs
  • Give back and make a difference 

Information_Symbol(4) Students in this program will...

  • Not be completing required community service hours -- unless their hours requirement is at least 40 hours
  • Volunteer from March 4, 2018 through May 19, 2018 (exceptions will be made for college students when semesters end earlier than May 19, 2018)
  • Volunteer at least one, 3-4 hour shift per week (based on the student's schedule and available volunteer positions)
  • Have the opportunity to volunteer in patient care areas either at Rochester General Hospital or one of its offsite medical settings

3.

Fill out preference and availability Questionnaire

Sign up for the date and time of the Group Interview session of your choice – the week of January 22, 2018.

5.

Complete Online (Part 1) Orientation

  1. Review the Self Study Orientation presentation.
  2. Print and complete the Part 1 Self-Study Post-Test.
  3. Print and complete the Self-Study Topic Checklist.
  4. Print and sign the Confidentiality Agreement.
  5. Print and complete the Reference Check, Essay, References & GPA Forms.

 

6.

Attend Group Interview

7.

Placement or wait-list email sent by Volunteer Office

By Wednesday, January 31st, an email will be sent to every student that participates in a Group Interview session. Students will either find out their volunteer assignment/placement for the program or that they are on the wait-list in case a slot comes open.

 

8.

Register for In-Class

(Part 2) Orientation

Monday, February 19th from 5:00-8:30pm

or

Monday, February 26th from 5:00-8:30pm

 

Location and registration details will be provided at Group Interviews.

 

9.

Complete Health Screening

Paperwork distributed at Group Interview.

 

10.

Program Starts week of March 4, 2018

Students will start on their assigned day of the week during the week of March 4, 2018.
