Advanced placement at Isabella Graham Hart School of Practical Nursing is designed for the applicant who has successfully completed 185 hours clinical/lab time in an approved college or vocational nursing program within 2 years of application time. Successful candidates will join the existing cohort in either January or June, which is the start of semester II (PN 200: Medical/Surgical Nursing). The following detail the steps in the admission process.
Steps for Admission
Step 1: Admission Requirements
- Apply to the Advanced Placement Program
- Submit an official college transcript showing successful completion for all required college courses
- Anatomy & Physiology (within seven years) 75% “C” or higher required.
- Fundamentals of Nursing (within seven years) 80% or “B-“or higher required
- Validation of 185 clinical/lab hours from college or vocational program (within two years)
Step 2: Admissions Review
Step 3: Pre-Admission Testing Component
- Applicant must successfully complete (with a proficiency level of 2 or higher) the Assessment Technology Institute (ATI) testing for content of Nursing Fundamentals
- Applicant must successfully complete (with a grade of 90% or greater) the Math Calculation Exam proctored by IGH (The applicant is given 1 opportunity to pass dosage calculation).
Step 4: Clinical Skills Demonstration
- Upon successful completion of steps 1, 2, and 3 you will be scheduled to demonstrate competence in fundamental nursing skills
Once You've Applied
Upon successful completion of the above steps and ranking, the candidate may be offered acceptance into the PN program. Accepted students are required to attend an orientation prior to the first day of classes.
For classes beginning in January: Advanced Placement students must have the completed application, required documentation and testing finished by October 1st.
For classes beginning in June: Advanced Placement students must have the completed application, required documentation and testing finished by May 1st.
At any time in the process, applicants have the option to convert to full program application consideration.
