Philosophy of Learning

At Park Ridge Child Care Center we believe that play remains a cornerstone for how children learn and develop.  Based on this theory, classroom routines encourage active involvement, meaningful experimentation and reinforcement through repetition.  Schedules are designed to balance structure and free choice, as well as, active and quiet times. Play allows children to use their creativity while developing their imagination, dexterity, physical, cognitive, emotional and social development. It is through play that children learn at a very early age to engage and interact with the world around them. As they master their world, play helps children develop new competencies that lead to enhanced confidence and the resiliency they will need to face future challenges.  We introduce skills through activities, which are either child initiated or teacher directed.  These activities are planned to emphasize the process rather than the product, fostering a sense of pride and accomplishment.

Recognizing that children develop at their own pace, we treat each child as an individual, working from the level each child has attained and moving forward a step at a time.  We teach a love of learning by allowing children to experience at their own pace and helping them feel success while still having fun!
