Our program is the second oldest Medical Laboratory Science Program in the United States, and we are committed to both educating the next generation of Medical Laboratory Scientists as well as offering our graduates many exciting career opportunities once the program finishes.
Students train in all laboratory settings, and we introduce them early on to a variety of employment opportunities after graduation. Rochester itself is a wonderful community with affordable housing, easy commutes, excellent schools and a variety of cultural and recreational opportunities. Our hope is that our students will choose to build an exciting career here with us at Rochester Regional Health once the Program finishes. Licensed medical laboratory scientists are in short supply and high demand. There has never been a better time for students to consider a laboratory career strongly.

Up to three-quarters of all medical decisions are based, at least in part, on laboratory data. We are essential members of the health care team and are engaged in significant work, making a difference in patients’ health and wellness.

As one integrated service line within Rochester Regional Health, laboratories at Rochester General Hospital and RGH Elmgrove collectively perform several million tests per year, utilizing state of the art instrumentation, computer systems, and facilities. The program offers an outstanding faculty of technical specialists and M.D./Ph.D.’s. Our students have the invaluable opportunity to see and learn from both standard specimens and abnormal specimens covering a wide range of specialties at two large, state-of-the-art laboratories.
Our graduates perform excellently on the national certifying examination and embark upon an exciting and fulfilling journey. Not only is the job market extremely strong nationwide for those with a medical laboratory science background, but the choices that can be made within that job market are amazing – clinical labs, research and development, the pharmaceutical industry, large equipment manufacturers and computer companies, biotechnology, infection control, and emerging diseases, forensics labs, environmental labs, and teaching programs.
