About The Provider
Apostolos Kandilis, MD, PhD, FACS, is a general and hepato-pancreato-biliary surgeon at Canton-Potsdam Hospital, where he provides comprehensive surgical care using open, laparoscopic, thoracoscopic, and robotic techniques. He is committed to bringing advanced surgical services to patients in the St. Lawrence Region, ensuring high-quality care is available in a rural and underserved area. Dr. Kandilis has specialized expertise in the treatment of liver, pancreas, and biliary diseases. He is also working to expand thoracic surgical services locally in collaboration with the team at Rochester General Hospital, improving access to specialized care.
Dr. Kandilis earned his medical degree and PhD in Surgery from the University of Athens in Greece, where his research focused on liver regeneration following partial hepatectomy. He completed surgical residency training at University Hospital of Athens “Laiko” in Greece and at Einstein/Jefferson Health in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Kandilis has completed advanced fellowship training at internationally recognized institutions, including kidney and pancreas transplantation at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust in London, esophagogastric surgery at University Hospitals Bristol NHS Trust in the United Kingdom, hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery at St. John Providence Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, and minimally invasive thoracic surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. Additionally, Dr. Kandilis is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
