Newark, NY — Rochester Regional Health (RRH) is pleased to announce that Newark-Wayne Community Hospital (NWCH) has once again been designated a Baby-Friendly Hospital, a prestigious international recognition awarded by Baby-Friendly USA. The title is a testament to the hospital’s commitment to providing the highest standard of care for breastfeeding mothers and their newborns.

The Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative is an international program that encourages and recognizes hospitals and birthing centers that offer an outstanding level of care for infant feeding and mother-baby bonding. NWCH reaffirms its place in a global network of over 20,000 Baby-Friendly facilities, including just under 500 in the United States.

Following an intensive review process, NWCH maintains this honor by meeting the rigorous standards based on the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding, a set of evidence-based practices developed by the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF. These steps are designed to ensure mothers receive the support, education, and resources they need to make informed choices about infant feeding during the critical early days of a baby’s life. NWCH has been officially Baby-Friendly since 2015, and this year was among only 10% of all Baby-Friendly designated hospitals to receive this award with zero corrective actions.

“This recognition reinforces our continued dedication to supporting families from the very beginning,” said Dr. Robert Cole, MD, MBA, Chief Medical Officer for Rochester Regional Health’s Eastern Region“The Baby-Friendly designation reflects our persistent efforts to promote safe, evidence-based practices that support mothers - regardless of how they choose to feed their baby - while empowering them with knowledge and compassionate care.”

The Baby-Friendly designation continues to solidify Rochester Regional Health’s commitment to delivering exceptional, evidence-based care that supports the health and well-being of every patient—from the very first moments of life and beyond.
