Rochester, NY - Rochester Regional Health is proud to share that Shari McDonald, RN, Vice President, and Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) of Rochester General Hospital, has been named to Becker’s Hospital Review’s 2025 list of Hospital and Health System Chief Nursing Officers to Know.
This national recognition highlights nursing leaders who are advancing patient-centered care, workforce excellence, and quality outcomes across hospitals and health systems in the United States.
As Chief Nursing Officer of Rochester General Hospital, Shari McDonald provides strategic, clinical, and operational leadership for nursing practice across inpatient, procedural, and ambulatory settings. She supports more than 1,000 nurses and is responsible for advancing safety, shared governance, professional development, and evidence-based care delivery to meet the evolving needs of patients and families.
“Shari’s leadership sets the tone for excellence across Rochester General Hospital,” said Tammy Snyder, President of Rochester General Hospital. “She leads with clarity, humility, and deep respect for nursing, empowering teams to deliver exceptional care for our community every day.”
Under McDonald’s leadership, Rochester General Hospital achieved its fifth Magnet® designation in 2025, a distinction earned by fewer than one percent of hospitals nationwide. The recognition reflects sustained excellence in nursing practice, patient outcomes, and organizational culture.
“I’m grateful for this recognition, but it truly belongs to our nurses,” said Shari McDonald. “Their skill, compassion, and commitment are what make Rochester General Hospital a place where patients and families can trust they’ll receive outstanding care.”
Each year, Becker’s Hospital Review’s Hospital and Health System CNOs to Know list recognizes nursing leaders whose work is shaping the future of healthcare through clinical innovation, workforce development, and measurable improvements
