Thorough, Coordinated Rehabilitation

The attending physician is a physiatrist (fi-zee-AH-trist), a specialist who is trained in physical medicine and rehabilitation. As the leader of the care team, a physiatrist will:

  • Oversee the entire care plan
  • Prescribe therapy treatments and medications
  • Communicate with personal and/or referring physicians as needed
  • Coordinate the services of other medical specialists
  • Explain the patient’s condition and its implications for them and the entire family

Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residents from the University of Rochester rotate through Golisano Rehab Center.

The Golisano Restorative Neurology & Rehabilitation Center participates in the training of University of Rochester School of Medicine resident physicians. Also works closely with Pediatric sub-specialist from University of Rochester and Rochester General Hospital.

When leaving our inpatient rehabilitation program, patients go back to seeing their personal doctor. They may also continue to meet with our physiatrist in our clinic on an outpatient basis, depending on their needs.
