The attending physician is a physiatrist (fi-zee-AH-trist), a specialist who is trained in physical medicine and rehabilitation. As the leader of the care team, a physiatrist will:
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residents from the University of Rochester rotate through Golisano Rehab Center.
The Golisano Restorative Neurology & Rehabilitation Center participates in the training of University of Rochester School of Medicine resident physicians. Also works closely with Pediatric sub-specialist from University of Rochester and Rochester General Hospital.
When leaving our inpatient rehabilitation program, patients go back to seeing their personal doctor. They may also continue to meet with our physiatrist in our clinic on an outpatient basis, depending on their needs.

Nithyanandini Namassivaya, MDPhysiatrist Golisano Restorative Neurology & Rehabilitation Center Dr. Namassivaya specializes in inpatient and spinal cord injury rehabilitation, management of traumatic brain injuries and outpatient musculoskeletal pain. She earned her medical degree from Bangalore University in Karnataka, India and did an internship at Victoria Hospital in Bangalore. She had externship training in Anesthesiology at the New York Hospital Medical Center in Queens, as well as the Maine Medical Center Department of Medicine in Portland. She did a transitional year program at the New York Hospital Medical Center before completing her residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Rochester. Dr. Namassivaya is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, with a sub-specialty in Spinal Cord Injury Medicine. She is a member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and a former member of the American Paraplegic Society. She won a residency teaching award in 2006 and a residency appreciation award in both 2007 and 2008.
