Shoulder Replacement

Personalized Treatment for a Damaged Shoulder

A shoulder replacement surgery replaces a damaged or worn-down shoulder joint with an artificial part that lessens pain, improves range of motion, and increases strength. Rochester Regional Health offers total shoulder replacement surgery.

If you have shoulder arthritis, instability, poor range of motion, or pain, a shoulder replacement that replaces the ball and socket with artificial material may be your best option for relieving pain and other symptoms. The Rochester Regional Health orthopedic surgery team provides personalized care through every step of the process – ensures you’re ready for your surgery and have the best outcomes possible.

Total Shoulder Replacement Surgery

As with other joint replacement surgeries, during a shoulder replacement, our orthopedic surgeons will use minimally invasive approaches to replace the ends of the damaged bones in your shoulder joint.

Shoulder replacement is one of the most reliable treatment options for improving function, reducing pain, and getting patients back to the things they love.

Steps for a Successful Total Shoulder Replacement

  • Bone preparation
First, the top of the humerus is removed from the socket and damaged cartilage and worn bone is removed from the upper portion of the shoulder.
  • Implant positioning
Next, a metal socket is fitted to the top of the humerus and a plastic socket cup is added to the implant.
  • Reshaping and securing
The socket is reshaped to create a stable surface, where a metal ball is secured and placed.
