Education & Engagement

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

Education

At RRH, we are focused on building a diverse workforce that understands and practices cultural humility, and is motivated to provide the best patient centered care. As a result, we provide ongoing opportunities for cultural and social awareness and work at all levels across the health system to have open dialogue around various topics to foster inclusion. Our DEI education includes, but is not limited to, onboarding, elective, targeted, and tailored opportunities.

Engagement

Engaging our community and workforce is key to reaching our goal of improving the health and lives of our teams and those we serve.

Our Rochester Regional Health Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Office (DEI) team works with partners throughout the region to address health disparities, limit the impact of structural racism and ensure that all perspectives are not only heard, but valued.

Below, we’ve listed some of our major events, groups and other ways that we’re engaging with our community to improve diverse, equitable and inclusive care for all.

Rochester Regional Health Employee Retention Group

Our Employee Retention Group was created to attract, train, and enhance the culture throughout our health care system. We believe that happy, engaged employees treat our patients to the best possible care, and are compassionate and engaging coworkers.

The Rochester Regional retention strategy focuses on keeping employees motivated and focused, and our comprehensive employee retention program not only attracts and retains diverse employees, but also reduces turnover. These strategies are helpful for our health system, and they also contribute to job satisfaction.

Our group works to ensure that we are competitive in terms of salaries, rewards, development opportunities, and work environment.

Signature Events

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion at Rochester Regional Health hosts Inclusion Week, Black History Month, and Martin Luther King, Jr. Day events annually. These events are a big part of our identity, and are thoroughly planned to best serve our employees and organization.

1. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

Each year, Rochester Regional Health joins the nation in recognizing Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and honoring his dedication, perseverance, and selfless service to others.

We host events and informative talks throughout our health system, designed to help us think about and embrace Dr. King’s teachings. We come together to celebrate, but also to learn how we can incorporate all the things that made Dr. King a visionary.

2. Black History Month

To celebrate Black History Month in 2021, the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Office created a myriad of educational resources, employee spotlights, interactive trivia, and a virtual celebration that honored Black legacy throughout February and beyond.

Our education and celebration were embraced system-wide in February, concluding with employee spotlights and a virtual event.

3. National Inclusion Week

National Inclusion week is a week to celebrate, share and inspire inclusive practices across the health system.

While we hope that diversity, equity, and inclusion are embraced every day, we also use Inclusion Week to demonstrate our commitment across our health system.

Community Conversations

Our community conversations are open forums to provide education to our community on a wide range of topics.

We Ask Because We Care

Rochester Regional Health's We Ask Because We Care campaign is an initiative to help  our patients received the highest level of care. We are working to ensure all populations feel welcome when coming into our system, and believe that they are getting the best care possible. Health equality for all is our true north. This is a system wide effort to connect, educate and empower patients and employees to engage in order to produce the best patient outcomes.
