Fostering Sustainable Communities: Our Outreach and Education Initiatives
Here at Rochester Regional Health, we believe in empowering our community through education and outreach initiatives. We're committed to nurturing a future-ready healthcare workforce while promoting wellness among our stakeholders. Together, we're creating lasting change.
Rochester, like many U.S. cities, faces a challenging landscape of generational poverty. Shockingly, it has the highest child poverty rate among similar-sized cities at 52.5% and ranks fifth in extreme poverty among the top 75 metropolitan areas in the U.S. While we can't banish these grim statistics single-handedly, we're teaming up with local partners to enhance community health and pave the way for more prosperous, sustainable futures.
New Visions offers high school students an immersive exploration of their potential futures in the medical field. Students follow healthcare professionals through intense, hands-on rotations of various aspects of patient care at our facilities.
In collaboration with Catholic Family Center, our Center for Refugee Health provides vital health screenings to around 800 refugees resettling in our region each year.
InterVol is a not-for-profit that redirects unused medical supplies to communities in need worldwide. Housed at our headquarters, InterVol organizes medical missions across the globe, propped up by the invaluable contributions of our employees. Explore InterVol and their volunteer opportunities on their website.
Proudly paired with Hillside, our work-scholarship program equips high-risk students with crucial real-world job experiences within our health network. These invaluable experiences nearly double their chances of high school completion, brightening their prospects for success in healthcare.
Our annual healthcare career camp held at Newark-Wayne enables teens to sample an array of healthcare careers available in the region. It's a head-start for many students, some of whom have returned to our hospitals after completing their healthcare education.
We're thrilled to partner up with the Rochester Institute of Technology on initiatives spanning from biomedical research to healthcare education. Our partnership also fosters innovation and sustainability within our community. Find out more at the RIT - Rochester Regional Health Alliance website.
