Don't Let Allergies Stop You from Being Vaccinated

Rochester Regional Health is one of the few hospital systems in the United States formally evaluating patients for possible allergies to the COVID-19 vaccines. While the same is done for other vaccines–flu being the most common–we are the only health system in the area offering careful, graded COVID-19 vaccines to individuals who have been found to be allergic to this vaccine.

If you are suffering from a life-threatening allergic reaction, please call 911.

What is Graded Vaccine Administration?

For people with allergies, we often administer vaccines in a different, but no less effective way. By injecting smaller portions of the vaccine into your body, and increasing the amount until the full vaccine is given, we can limit the chance of reaction, but will allow your body to attain the level of protection necessary. This procedure is often referred to as vaccine desensitization.

Allergists at Rochester Regional Health are excited to be applying the well-established technique of graded vaccine administration for the novel COVID-19 vaccine to help ensure that all individuals can be fully protected.

What to Do If You Have an Allergic Reaction

All people who undergo vaccine graded administration are monitored on-site for an immediate, severe allergic reaction. Our nurses and physicians will ensure that you receive the care you need should an allergic reaction occur.

Why Choose Rochester Regional Health

Allergists have been using graded vaccine administration for years in the studies of other vaccines and our group has been on the forefront of research in using graded vaccine administration for the novel COVID-19 vaccine.  A PCP (primary care provider) cannot do this procedure in their office, but the Allergy Program at Rochester Regional Health offers a safe place to receive the second dose of your COVID-19 vaccine for those who are allergic, as well as other vaccine administration.
