Center for Endoscopic Bariatric Procedures

A Less Invasive Option for Weight Loss

If you struggle with your weight, you’re not alone – more than two out of every three adults in the United States are overweight or obese. Although diet and exercise can help maintain a healthy weight, many people find it hard to achieve weight loss with these methods alone and look to medical professionals to help. Bariatric surgery is a common solution, although not everyone wants or is eligible for this type of surgery.

Another option is endoscopic weight loss procedures through the Center for Endoscopic Bariatric Procedures at Rochester Regional Health.

Minimally-Invasive Weight Loss Procedures

Our expert team offers weight loss procedures that use endoscopy, during which a doctor inserts a thin flexible tube through your mouth and into your digestive tract, allowing them to place special devices or medications directly in the GI tract, without the need for open surgery.

These procedures are a one-day procedure and do not require the long preparation or recovery that traditional bariatric surgeries often do.

The endoscopic weight loss procedures we offer include:

Gastric Balloon

We place a silicone balloon in the stomach to take up space. With less room in your stomach, you eat less. We leave the balloon in place for about 6 months and patients can expect to lose about 10-15% of their body weight. For patients with a BMI 25-30. We currently offer the Reshape, Orbera, and Obalon balloons.

Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty

A specialist places stitches inside the stomach to reduce the volume by 70%. Patients typically lose about 20% of their body weight with this procedure. For patients with a BMI from 30-40.

Endoscopic Stomal Reduction Using Overstitch

This procedure is used to reverse weight regain for patients who have had bariatric surgery. The procedure involves decreasing the size of the opening between the pouch and the intestine or the pouch itself, so it returns to the previous size after your initial surgery.

We’ll work together to determine the best treatment plan and procedure for you, whether it be traditional lifestyle changes like improving your diet and exercise, exploring endoscopic bariatric procedures or starting a journey towards bariatric surgery.
