Jail Diversion Program

Behavioral Health

Finding the Right Fit for You

Our jail diversion program is the sole program of its kind in New York State, offering an alternative to jail through our partnership with Monroe and Ontario Counties. The program, which is voluntary, enables police to work with an individual to identify if mental health treatment is more beneficial than jail.

How Jail Diversion Works:

An officer refers an individual to the program instead of immediate incarceration. The individual must agree to a behavioral health plan of care and a mental health assessment. After 30 days, the results are documented and forwarded to the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office, Public Defender Office and the Office of Mental Health, where they determine whether to dismiss or pursue charges.
