Rochester Regional Health offers free in-person and online classes and tours to help you feel informed and confident as you prepare for your baby’s arrival. Whether you choose to join us at one of our locations or learn from the comfort of home, our classes are designed to support you every step of the way. Newark-Wayne Community Hospital
- Recommended for parents during weeks 28-34 of pregnancy
- Number of classes: 4 (2 hours each)
- Frequency of Offering: 4 week series
For: Women / families who have not yet attended childbirth classes.
This 4 class series is full of answers to questions that most expectant mothers have. This class covers what to expect with your pregnancy and labor, as well as comfort techniques and pain control possibilities. Attendees will also learn about unexpected outcomes, such as cesarean delivery. A virtual tour is also available to view.

- Frequency of Offering: Offered once per month
For: Strongly suggested for families interested in learning more about breastfeeding.
This 2 hour class covers basic information on milk production and how to breastfeed. This class also contains videos on latching, positioning, feeding cues, and lifestyles of breastfeeding families, as well as the working, breastfeeding mother.

Second Trimester Prenatal Session
In this 2.5 hour class, you will learn about the continued development of your baby and how to care for yourself both in body and mind up to your 27th week. You will also begin thinking more in-depth about how you want your labor experience to look, preparing your body for labor, and who you want to support you through your experience.
The class will be in-person at the Center for Workforce Development located at 1630 Portland Ave, Rochester, NY 14621.
Third Trimester Prenatal Series
Classes will be in-person on Wednesdays held at the Center for Workforce Development located at 1630 Portland Ave, Rochester, NY 14621.
A virtual option is also available.
Each session is a 4 week program.
- Week 1 - Overview of the Third Trimester and Labor
- Week 2 - Comfort Techniques and Planning for Birth
- Week 3 - Medical Procedures & Review of Movement/Comfort Techniques
- Week 4 - The First Hour, Postpartum in the Hospital, & the First 6 Weeks at Home
Supporting Labor
This 3 hour class is a focused and hands-on opportunity to learn more about the ways you can move through labor at home and in the hospital setting. Bring your chosen support person as you will both benefit from practicing these techniques together.
This class will be in-person at the Center for Workforce Development located at 1630 Portland Ave, Rochester, NY 14621.
Induction Information
In this 1.5 hour class, you will be informed about why someone would be induced for labor and what the process may look like from beginning to birth. This class will also provide information on how to prepare for the induction experience.
This is offered virtually on a weekly basis.

Unity Hospital
The birth of a baby is a unique and personal experience and a special time for every parent. We look forward to welcoming you to the August Family Birth Place at Unity Hospital!

United Memorial Medical Center
The Preparing for Birth classes are recommended for parents during weeks 28-34 of pregnancy. These classes feature an overview of labor and delivery, comfort measures, pain management, Cesarean delivery care, informed consent, postpartum care, and newborn care.

United Memorial Medical Center also offers the LEAD program for all mothers, providing support and guidance on their breastfeeding journey. As part of that program, we offer:

Our Infant Feeding Classes are recommended for parents during weeks 30-37 of pregnancy, and are strongly suggested for families interested in learning more about infant feeding, including breastfeeding. Breastfeeding, chest feeding, and bottle feeding methods will be discussed in the Infant Nutrition Class, as well as how to maintain milk with latching difficulties, while pumping, and beyond.

UMMC is a Baby Friendly Hospital offering the golden hour after birth for bonding, Lactation Consultant assistance while in the hospital, and discharge support. A continuum of care and support provided by trained and board certified Lactation Consultants can address important challenges in infant feeding, establish skills for breastfeeding, and competency and confidence among mothers.
