Cardiac Rehab - What to Expect

Personalized Recovery Plans for Every Heart

Rochester Regional Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation will assess your risk factors and current health condition, and create a custom program for recovery that may involve modifying your lifestyle and incorporating exercise/activity. We then monitor your progress and help provide motivation to keep you on the right track.

While our programs are tailored to your individual needs, a typical schedule involves up to 36 sessions over as many as 18 weeks. We can work with you on an inpatient or outpatient basis, and the frequency of our services will vary based on your clinical status, risk stratification, risk factor status and progress/goals.

Many of our patients have diseases, conditions or lifestyle concerns that have contributed to their heart or lung disease. The most common risk factors are:

  • Smoking
  • Elevated lipids
  • High blood pressure
  • Lack of activity
  • Obesity
  • Diabetes
  • Stress
Cardiopulmonary rehabilitation will help you address these issues – which will in turn facilitate your recovery, help prevent subsequent incidents, and enhance your quality of life.
After developing lung disease or experiencing a heart event, you may feel different emotions like anxiety, fear, anger or depression. These feelings are normal – they’re part of an adjustment period that you should try to take one day at a time. You may feel like you’re not in control of your future – but when you start a cardiopulmonary rehabilitation program, you’re taking an important step to regain control of your life and take charge of your recovery.
