We’re here to help you understand and manage amyloidosis — a serious cause of heart disease. The Sands-Constellation Heart Institute’s Amyloid Center offers comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, and care for patients with suspected or confirmed cardiac amyloidosis.
Why Amyloidosis Matters
Amyloidosis occurs when abnormal proteins – amyloids – build up in different tissues throughout the body. Amyloidosis can affect the nerves, heart, kidneys, gastrointestinal track, and skin. When this occurs in the heart, it makes the heart stiff and less effective at pumping blood. It is often underdiagnosed because its symptoms can resemble those of other heart conditions. Early recognition and treatment can improve quality and quantity of life.
